چکیده

This paper proposes two models for simulating belief update in social networks in cases where certain beliefs might be considered to be competing. The proposed models represent different attitudes of people towards the perceived conflict between beliefs. Computer simulations show that the first model usually divides the community into several distinct groups with one of the beliefs being rejected, while the second model tends to make the network achieve consensus for both beliefs with independent network update and maintain diversity on both beliefs with joint network update.

A Framework for the Social Description of Resources in Open Environments

The description of public resources such as web site contents, web services or data files in open peer-to-peer networks using some formal framework like RDF usually reflects solely the subjective requirements, opinion and preferences of the resource provider. In some sense, such resource descriptions appear “antisocial” as they do not reflect the social impact of the respective resource and the...

Gossips and Prejudices: Ergodic Randomized Dynamics in Social Networks

In this paper we study a novel model of opinion dynamics in social networks, which has two main features. First, agents asynchronously interact in pairs, and these pairs are chosen according to a random process. We refer to this communication model as “gossiping”. Second, agents are not completely open-minded, but instead take into account their initial opinions, which may be thought of as thei...

The Coevolution of Individual Economic Characteristics and Socioeconomic Networks

The opinion dynamics of economic agents is modeled with the link structure influenced by the resulting opinions: Links between people of nearly the same opinion are more stable than those between people of vastly different opinions. A simple scaling law describes the number of surviving final opinion as a function of the numbers of agents and of possible opinions.
